BEAMAN LIBRARY/WNBA Summer Reading/Discussion Series 2010
Themes of War is the focus of this year's series.

June 14: The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. Mariner Books, 2009. $14.95. Led by Steve Prewitt, Associate Provost, Lipscomb University.
June 21: The Heat of the Day by Elizabeth Bowen. Anchor Books, 2002. $14.95. Led by Dr. Linda A. Barnes, Austin Peay State University.
June 28: For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway. Scribner, 1995. $16.00. Led by Dr. Ed. Gleaves, Tennessee State Librarian and Archivist (retired).
July 12: We Band of Angels: The Untold Story of American Nurses Trapped on Bataan by the Japanese by Elizabeth Norman. Atria Books, 2000. $14.95. Led by Elizabeth Heffington, Librarian, Beaman Library, Lipscomb University.
July 19: Shoulder the Sky by Anne Perry. Ballantine Books, 2005. $13.95. Led by Andrea Lindsey, Librarian, Blackwood High School.
July 26: Shiloh by Shelby Foote. Vintage Books, 1991. $13.95. Led by Dr. Dennis Loyd, (retired) Lipscomb University.

Chapter Activities
(Note: Please be advised that WNBA programs adhere to the inclement weather policy of the Davidson County Public School System)
- Monthly meetings feature timely topics about books, authors and publishing.
- Elegant gatherings, such as our annual holiday dinner, commemorate special events.
- Book Discussion Group! This new group meets quarterly at the Richland Park branch of the Nashville Public Library.
- A summer reading series at Lipscomb University that explores a genre or an area of special interest, such as first-time authors, memoirs, or mysteries.
- The Southern Festival of Books gets a helping hand from WNBA members who assist with logistics,
author bookings and hospitality, and publicity.
- Local literacy initiatives such as RIF (Reading is FUNdamental), BOOK 'EM!, Tennessee Young Writers, and the Nashville Adult Literacy Council enjoy WNBA's active support.
- Our Athena Awards nomination offers WNBA an opportunity to showcase a member who demonstrates excellence in personal leadership, business and community service.
